    Hopefully they won’t be as car-centric as the ones built after WW2, and will include walkable access to amenities, safe bike lanes and public transport designed in from the ground up.

      I’m still annoyed that the green towns from the early 2000s didn’t get rail links. They even built on a historic line in one!

      Heidi Alexander, the Transport Secretary, is pretty good on this stuff, so there’s reason for optimism.

      Harlow had loads of cycle lanes between centres of work and shopping areas. Now they are covered in broken glass and many are not safe to use after dark.

      They got forgotten about when it was decided everyone should have a car.

      People just cycle in the road or on the pavement.

    Of course 80% are just going to be overpriced boxes that line the pockets of developers.
