  • Now, however, recently appointed Labour Ministers including Justice Secretary Shabana Mahmood have decided to save money by not reimbursing the likes of Mr O’Brien for “bed and board” payments deducted from their compensation years ago.

The Tories were the party in power when the bed and board payment was originally applied for this person, and now they’re blaming labour? Standard tory misdirection tactics then. Maybe one day they’ll buy a mirror and work out what self reflection is, but I doubt it.

Similar to another comment here, The ex-prisoner has asked the now government to reimburse them, which they’ve declined. Yeah that sucks but the country can’t afford to fix all the shitty decisions that have been made whilst the last government was in power.

  • Sorry if I misunderstood. I’ll reply on the basis of your latest comment.

I said I don’t see why I valid target would be made invalid just because it’s inside Russia

Is anybody saying a target would be made invalid just because it’s in Russia? My point was all targets inside Russia are open to increased scrutiny because of targeting inside Russia.

The children’s hospital example is because Russia likely does not have children’s hospitals (or other non-military assets) inside Ukraine, and therefore Russian targets inside Ukraine are almost certainly going to be valid. On the other hand, when some high up revenge obsessed Ukrainian military personnel decide they want to target Russian children’s hospitals, it’s useful for their targets to have increased scrutiny to prevent an additional civilian massacre.

Just to clarify, the children’s hospital example is being used to convey an obviously non military target which additional scrutiny can prevent from being attacked.

I’m going to stop replying to this thread now as I’m not sure I can make my point much clearer. I might re-read through the context though just in case I misunderstood something somewhere. I do Lemmy on mobile so sometimes it’s difficult to track a conversation.

  • Hopefully the party membership looks at their election defeat as the response to the hatefull, divisive rhetoric that it was and see there’s no sense in continuing with all the negativity.

Probably not. I think a lot of their current thinking is that if they can lean further right they can claim those reform votes back. Probably if they have a white male leader again, some of those right wingers are going to come back.

Some of them are also arguing for a broad left and right approach.

I hope they keep arguing about it, fail to make a decision, and as a result stay out of power for at least a decade.

  • We had some sex education in primary school at age 9.

It told the girls that they’re going to have periods. At age 9 some of them will be so I think this is a good idea. Parents were able to opt their kids out if they wished.

It told the group as a whole that puberty is a thing, and we might start it soon. Some changes might happen like body shape changes, voices getting deeper, hair growth etc.

None of it was about how to have sex, or how children are made. It was simple stuff that kids that age would benefit from knowing.

I don’t understand why anyone would even be on the fence about their kids knowing this stuff.
