  • Oh there’s several ways, especially if you have poor opsec. People used to raid people’s twitch accounts and bring down their internet connections by looking for their username on Skype which had a vulnerability which they could use to find a person’s IP.

For swatters on the otherhand, they tend to either know the streamer themselves or they tend to be groups like KiwiFarms who are a lot more organised and do a lot of research and detective work, like looking at the video, looking for usernames elsewhere, looking for emails, and looking for location clues. It’s really fucked up. They found Keffels’s Motel by the sheets in her room. It’s bad enough if you do not think about these things and just have sloppy OpSec, but even if you do, they can still find you.

  • So (not to) fun fact: Keffals, who was targeted by KiwiFarms for being trans (yes that’s all) and got Swatted. She then went to stay with another streamer (EllenFromNowOn) in Northern Ireland. Just for information sake, Northern Ireland is still a bit rocky security wise, Police there still carry guns on the regular. So when she went there, Ellen called up the police and explained the situation to them (they had never heard of Swatting weirdly enough).

Sure enough, someone found her flat, posted her address (with a message referencing a Unionist Slogan, Ellen was from the Catholic Community), and sure enough, the police came. Instead of raiding her all guns blasing (which they normally would) they saw the warning, knocked on the door, saw nothing was wrong, called off the squaddies, and came in to basically make sure everything was okay.

Bare in mind, this was in Northern Ireland, a place where the Police still drive Armored cars and have regular riots, and they handled this better than the Police in London, Ontario.

  • That’s basically the idea behind these laws.

Conservatives want to make porn illegal, which isn’t easy under traditional means, so they’re taking the “Putin” approach as I put it, make viewing porn hard, unattractive or even dangerous and make delivering porn to people hard, unattractive and dangerous.

Requiring an ID from the government to view porn means the government can tell who is watching what. If one of those people happens to run for office or get a little too campaigny, their porn history can be named and shamed.

And porn providers know this, and know that will drive people away from their sites, and on top of this implementing this will likely be bureaucratic and likely expensive, so they’ll stop serving an area.

And when this is applied to non porn sites that have porn like Reddit or twitter or Tumblr, well guess what’s going to happen, those sites will ban porn from their site.

It’s basically banning porn by making it impossible to get porn in a way that doesn’t end up with you getting blackmailed. Children have nothing to do with it.

  • OK so if you want my advice, if you wanna just try distros, use DistroSea. Let’s you try out distros in your browser. But here we go:

    On DistroSea

    • Debian: There’s a reason Mint and Ubuntu are based on Debian and it’s always good to try out just straight up Debian. I know people are going to be all “uuugh but Mint is basically Debian with extra steps”, don’t care, try Debian, you might wanna use it for other things too. If you are familiar with LinuxMint, you’re going to be familiar with
    • Bunsenlabs Linux: Successor to Crunchbang, an OpenBox Ubuntu Distro. If you want something ultralight and different, you might wanna try Bunsenlabs. I used Crunchbang back in the day, may it rest in peace.
    • Pop!_OS: Made for creatives and programmers, seems to be beloved, don’t really care too much, ubuntu based.
    • Fedora: Not a Debian/Ubuntu based system, instead a RedHat based system. Try it if you wanna check out a non Debian based system.
    • Lubuntu: Is XFCE too heavy for you? Try Lubuntu, which used LXQT as it’s desktop with an aim of being lighter than Ubuntu Mate or even Xubuntu. Aimed at old laptops and netbooks, and the website even brags that it can run on an rPi.
    • Tails: Are you doing shit you don’t want your ISP or Government to know about? Are you a Journalist or an activist? Well Tails is for you, designed to be installed on a pendrive for plug n’ play action, this distro does everything through the Tor Network. It’s also marketed to victims of abuse as well, but let’s be honest if you trust the government these days you need to look at yourself in the mirror.

    Not on Distrosea

    • PuppyLinux: Holy ball this is a blast from the past. This is not available on Distrosea but it’s available to download. It is designed to be tiny, and I mean smol. It’s an example of how you can get a functional, low resource load OS.
    • TempleOS: This is not a Linux distribution, it’s barely usable as an OS, but it’s legendary. TempleOS was created by Terry Davis, an extremely talented programmer and Schitzophrenic who created this OS to be the third temple of God. No I am not joking. It is, however, today considered a work of art by a troubled man.
