Logitech made the best (the g600) but it was discontinued and they show no signs of reviving it 😭

Zorsith@lemmy.blahaj.zoneto Selfhosted@lemmy.world•New to Kubernetes and Pi clustersEnglish3·1 month agoI’ve got a Latitude XT2. some of the plastic bits aged badly and developed a sort of weird film, including the charger brick; if you’ve had the same problem, I scrubbed the hell out of those specific parts with goo-gone and a microfiber cloth and its smooth and shiny again.
Zorsith@lemmy.blahaj.zoneto Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Buy HDD on sale now or wait for Black Friday?English2·1 month agoOkay, that’s pretty sweet. Imma have to look into that, i know a guy who just retired a server with like 10+ old HDDs
Zorsith@lemmy.blahaj.zoneto Mechanical Keyboards@lemmy.ml•Anyone got experience with Ducky keyboards?English3·2 months agoIve had one once, decently solid keyboard IIRC. Its been years since i had one though (like, 2017) and it was my first foray into mechanical keyboards outside of corsair, so i don’t/didn’t have technical knowledge to describe it. no idea if the quality is still good now or if there’s anything sketchy with software or firmware.
Zorsith@lemmy.blahaj.zoneto Linux@lemmy.ml•My first installation of linux on a 5 year old laptopEnglish1·2 months agoIve got an HP Zbook g6 coming my way soon I’m excited about, and its way overkill for what I’m gonna use it for; i just need a bigger laptop because i have giant meat hooks for hands and I actually use the numpad
Tl;dr, you can get a lot of laptop at decent prices looking at “older” hardware

They ones i remember were very explicitly named RAF (Royal Air Force), don’t know about other US branches presence
Zorsith@lemmy.blahaj.zoneto Linux@lemmy.ml•Do you encrypt your drives and why or why not?English2·8 months agoOf course, I’m paranoid and don’t trust the US government. Or any government really. “First they came for _____” and all that; Id rather just tell them to pound sand immediately instead of get caught with my pants down.

Zorsith@lemmy.blahaj.zoneto Linux@lemmy.ml•Thinking about switching to Linux; main concern is son's gamesEnglish3·10 months agoTry Linux in a VM (virtual machine) for a while.
- Low hassle compared to dual booting,
- no risk of Microsoft randomly doing something to windows that breaks your Linux install.
- low/No system downtime if you decide you don’t like one distro or another and want to switch,
- no loss of game data for your son (I’ve lost so many saves because of games putting them in nonsensical places in windows; why is appdata still the default for minecraft saves!?)

Zorsith@lemmy.blahaj.zoneto Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Why self host a password manager?English23·11 months agoPassword management is the one thing i don’t plan to self-host, on the grounds of not putting all my eggs in one basket. If something goes wrong and all my shit is fried or destroyed, I don’t want to also fuck around with account recovery for my entire digital existence.
Plus, if something is breached, im more likely to hear news about Bitwarden than I am about compromised server and/or client versions in a timeframe to actually be able to react to it.

[Gardiner Bryant, YouTube]English2·1 year agoWindows store apps are their own special pain in the ass for other reasons (patching on multi-user systems, as it installs apps to the user profile for some godforsaken reason)
Zorsith@lemmy.blahaj.zoneto Gaming@beehaw.org•Proton is the Future of PC gaming. But how does it work? [Gardiner Bryant, YouTube]English6·1 year agoI don’t think they care anymore. Their money makers are Azure and M365 at this point, and the OS is just getting ignored (except where they can make more money/data)
Deep Rock Galactic??
I saw something somewhere that they’re still selling them on ebay under the name “Logicool”, not sure how legit it is though.
Ive got 3 g600’s in rotation myself, i have yet to actually kill one and my main one has lasted me 5+ years
