Sick of microsofts shit (popups, AI, random unknown settings changes that i dont notice until its too late and shit is broken) and i wanted to learn Linux and get some home server experience.

11·1 month agoI mean… that worked fine for teenage me with a DSI.
I saw something somewhere that they’re still selling them on ebay under the name “Logicool”, not sure how legit it is though.
Ive got 3 g600’s in rotation myself, i have yet to actually kill one and my main one has lasted me 5+ years
Logitech made the best (the g600) but it was discontinued and they show no signs of reviving it 😭

3·3 months agoI’ve got a Latitude XT2. some of the plastic bits aged badly and developed a sort of weird film, including the charger brick; if you’ve had the same problem, I scrubbed the hell out of those specific parts with goo-gone and a microfiber cloth and its smooth and shiny again.

Mechanical Keyboards@lemmy.ml•Anyone got experience with Ducky keyboards?English
3·3 months agoIve had one once, decently solid keyboard IIRC. Its been years since i had one though (like, 2017) and it was my first foray into mechanical keyboards outside of corsair, so i don’t/didn’t have technical knowledge to describe it. no idea if the quality is still good now or if there’s anything sketchy with software or firmware.

1·3 months agoIve got an HP Zbook g6 coming my way soon I’m excited about, and its way overkill for what I’m gonna use it for; i just need a bigger laptop because i have giant meat hooks for hands and I actually use the numpad
Tl;dr, you can get a lot of laptop at decent prices looking at “older” hardware

2·9 months agoOf course, I’m paranoid and don’t trust the US government. Or any government really. “First they came for _____” and all that; Id rather just tell them to pound sand immediately instead of get caught with my pants down.

Linux@lemmy.ml•Thinking about switching to Linux; main concern is son's gamesEnglish
3·1 year agoTry Linux in a VM (virtual machine) for a while.
- Low hassle compared to dual booting,
- no risk of Microsoft randomly doing something to windows that breaks your Linux install.
- low/No system downtime if you decide you don’t like one distro or another and want to switch,
- no loss of game data for your son (I’ve lost so many saves because of games putting them in nonsensical places in windows; why is appdata still the default for minecraft saves!?)

I like Keychron, but i wish they didn’t use south-facing LEDs. I find it very eye-stabby from certain angles (especially the one right under the numpad 0 key)
