Go out and commit a crime.
A soup.
Go out and commit a crime.
Because laws truly don’t matter anymore. The veneer that everyone is accountable to the same law is fully off now.
Kdenlive. I used Adobe Premiere professionally and Kdenlive completely replaced it for me.
I can tell you right now that something like a username and password is exceptionally difficult for most users. Many just have one password for every single application and if they need to use a different email or password, they will be stuck.
The vast overwhelming majority of users do not have password managers, do not know they exist, and will give up at the first sign of complexity. You’re too far into the weeds if you don’t conceptualize this.
The overall vast majority of everyone is completely tech illiterate. We can blame them for their lack of tech skills all we want but that won’t change anything. Jellyfin needs a better UX before it’s feasible to use over Plex when sharing libraries with other users.
Thank you for this. It’s beautiful.
Highly specialized people live in bubbles and assume that everyone else lives in their same bubble and so if someone else doesn’t understand, they aren’t worth communicating with.
In my experience, all the Linux documentation I have read has been written for peers of Linux developers, who are familiar with technical terminology and several concepts and steps are left out and implied rather than explained.
It’s a way for developers to ensure that Linux never receives adoption past other developers. Literary equivalent of pulling the ladder up.
So from this thread it looks like I need to disable this font. I’m not able to as it gives me errors :/
I’m going to restart and see if I still get these errors.
Edit: still have the errors. Nuking this install because I’ve exhausted all troubleshooting. Moved all files to new user and redownloaded and configured my apps. Gives me an excuse to start fresh because the home folder was getting cluttered.
When I run fc-match sans
I get NotoSans-Regular.ttf: "Noto Sans" "Regular"
and when i run fc-match serif
I get NotoSerif-Regular.ttf: "Noto Serif" "Regular"
All things seem normal :/
Edit: I made a new user account and the fonts are all fixed on that one. Wondering if I should just move everything to my new account -_-
I’ve never had a problem with any media playback. I don’t think this is an issue on Bazzite, the immutable distro I’ve been using for over a year.
I think you overestimate the average persons need to configure their computers. Most people just use a web browser, email, and maybe some light gaming. No one new to Linux is going to be really upset that they can’t do complex system operations on the command line.
Get an immutable distro. You’ll never need to touch it again.
If it has the equivalent to the shape tool in Illustrator I’ll throw money at Inkscape. All my quick and dirty vector art comes from that tool. Merging shapes is zen 🧘
This absolutely does not belong here.
Your questions will have different answers depending on which flavour of Linux you choose.
A good chunk of windows programs can be run using a program called “WINE”. WINE is just a command line program but you can get a GUI version easily.
Updates depend on your flavour but Debian based Linux (like Ubuntu) you just type “sudo apt get update” and then “sudo apt get upgrade” and bam everything is updated. No restart required.
If a program doesn’t work in Linux there can be workarounds or alternatives but that really depends on what program you are talking about.
You can play almost every game that exists on steam on Linux with the exception of games that have kernel level anti cheat like some competitive multiplayer games.
You’re arguably safer security-wise on Linux. Most people are on windows so that’s the majority of all viruses. Your security updates are included in system updates. No antivirus required.
I have never heard of Linux damaging hardware. I don’t think you need to worry about this.
Recommendation: get Bazzite. It’s a special type of Linux that is closest to a windows experience than anything else. It won’t let you do dumb things and mess up your install. It has all NVIDIA drivers preinstalled as well as gamepad drivers and everything you’d need for gaming (including dock support). It’s a no configuration needed OS. Linux on easy mode. You don’t even need to use the command line ever. Updates and apps are installed through the Linux equivalent of the Microsoft App Store (except this time it is great and doesn’t suck). And I say this as someone who only used windows until 15 years ago I messed around with Ubuntu and other Debian based Linux distributions.
Yes this is totally possible. Run Windows 10 and then use docker to host all your services.
It’s fucking horrible. Don’t do this unless you hate yourself.
You need to be the hero you all are waiting for. The German people in the 30s all waited for some magical saviour to come and none did.
Bazzite because I get an immutable install that won’t let me accidentally fuck it up. It just works. All necessary drivers for my dock and peripherals are already installed and configured. It’s the very first time in my decades long Linux excursion that I have a user experience that is similar to windows in that sense, but without the enshittifcation of windows.
I genuinely enjoy video editing, gaming, and surfing the web on my laptop when it’s running Bazzite.
That is fine. As long as you do a crime.
