try out Zorin OS

same was happening to me. games blacking out, or pc completely freezing during the loading screen. so right now, I am on 550.163.01. guess my graphics card is just outdated by nvidia standards.

Zorin OS is better

It’s easy to install nVidia drivers nowadays. The real issues will be using them. Maybe I just got a bad card, but maybe nVidia is actual garbage. I don’t know.

Sure is. I have to change my display driver from one version to another, to be able to play different games. Otherwise, some games freeze my system within few seconds of launching the game (also happens during local video full-screen playback). The linux guys will tell me, “oh, it’s just because your distro install was corrupt”, or “definitely a hardware issue”, “PSU failing / GPU failing”, etc. but no, that’s just how linux works. there will always be some system configurations that are bound to have these problems. this is similar to linux users “choosing” not to play the games that don’t work on linux distributions.

Linux tablets? I have a lenovo tablet that now runs fedora, but the hardware is not meant for gaming. I think Legends of Lumia was the game that I played, but the sound was missing.

Many old native games don’t run on linux anymore. The only way to play them is Proton.

i’m using zorin, and whenever apps update in the background my pc gets big lag spikes 🙁

is this really that bad? I remember seeing a Win7 theme for KDE, and I really want to install something like that on a spare laptop. will it break something with each update from the distro?
