Not seen this before, looks like Audacious on steroids. A bit like Photoshop vs MS Paint.

At this point he’s just pushing potential users away. I wonder if he’s given up on it and is just holding on to it until the election is completed.
At least 34 people have requested to move to Russia from the UK
What does this mean. So the actual number could be any number between 34 and the entire population of the UK?
Or, does it mean that there is 34 people that we know of. And they’re having trouble finding anyone else.
I wonder how many Russians have left Russia in the same time period.
I also wonder what percentage 34 people are of the entire population of the UK.
It just strikes me as a desperate propaganda ploy from the Kremlin. Inflating a nothing burger beyond all proportion.
I wish our expats well. And the best of luck to 'em.
It’s OK the NHS has GPs coming out of it’s ears… </s>
While you’re correct that laws are created by the legislature the judiciary is where they are judged to be just. At least in systems based on English common law. Look up jury nullification for more info. Also, prosecutorial discretion is a thing. Basically if any law isn’t enforced either through jury nullification and/or prosecutorial discretion then it is vestigial and should be amended or repealed.
Sweet! Although I do wish they could expand the access, at least give read-write access even if it is only for that session.
While it’s a bit off topic regarding the question, if you want a quick glimpse of what’s out there, try https://distrosea.com/
I read it as a self-censor by The Beeb. Or, more to the point, they censored Miriam. And maybe it was just the BBC that found it shocking.
[Edit] after rereading the article, it appears that listeners forced this action. Thinking about it more something is off about the presentation of facts in this article. How can the BBC pull something from a broadcast that’s already been broadcast? Maybe the iPlayer version is changed and any rebroadcasts.
Thanks for this. I never knew about this. In retrospect, Fagin was a pretty shoddy stereotype. But, in general most of Dickens’ books deal in such tropes. The real question is, was Miriam wrong to say what she did? And was the BBC wrong in censoring her? While your anecdote was interesting I’m not sure it spoke to those questions specifically.
Subtle bit of framing there: “centrist turn”. Not: " rightward turn". The author places the frame of reference in the center of politics rather than in the heart of the Labour party.
When you consider the rightward ratchet of Overton Window I’d argue the latter framing is more illuminating.
I thought that the Conservatives just banned onshore wind turbines regardless of sentiment on the ground.
Yeah, Boris did gut the Conservatives of any moderates over Brexit. Without them, they will have the devil’s own job moving centre-ward.
For them it’s a catch-22, the current make up of the Conservatives make it a hostile environment for moderates, but they need them to bring the Conservatives to the centre. The right will need to cede power for that to happen.
I would argue that cronyism is a symptom of capitalism. Regulatory capture and buying off politicians is a damn fine return on investment.
This is not to say communism didn’t also have it’s problem with corruption and bribes.
Without proper oversight, any human run thing is subject to this universal law: humans are lazy and greedy.
I think it’s a question of democracy against autocracy. You can either impose wind farms against local objections, or you can take a more difficult route and involve the local communities.
What I am saying is you can support green infrastructure, but only if it’s sustainable and with consent of the local communiy.
I suspect that will change with a quickness as they rise to prominence.
This is the outcome of Capitalism . Even the new Open Access Operators are no guarantee of sustainable salvation. As Capitalism in a free market will always seek to acquire and merge. Or out compete and destroy competition.
That’s the trouble with public service broadcasters, they are not immune from political interference.
Jeremy Corbyn got it right, rather than make the controller a political position make them accountable to a independent body. This should go some way to repairing the BBC’s bias problem.
It won’t happen though they are too good a propaganda outfit. Who for? The establishment. Whichever party is in power. So, you want to change the BBC? You need to change government.
And for those that advocate abolition, at least with the current system, you have one lever of power. Good luck in influencing Rupert Murdoch to sway his reporting.
I’m not so sure about that. That framing hazardously to the stereotype that the right are fiscally responsible as opposed to the spend crazy left.
it’s kind of ironic, Tories shopping at a store run on market socialist grounds: worker co-op.
I was shocked about the amount of content when I browsed BBC’s Iplayer service. They even have films. If you want to save some well known movies and are in the UK, you could exhaust their selection before even having to put your hand in your pocket to splash out on extra privatised content.
