The whole thing seems incredible.
How is “oh it was epilepsy” a defence when you’ve never had an epileptic fit before? No history of it.
You’ve all seen a million YouTube videos of someone panicking and hitting the accelerator when they meant the brake. Unfortunately far far more likely than “invisible epilepsy”.
I can’t believe they didn’t charge her (first time round).
She was probably haring it along Camp Road (as well-to-do Chelsea tractor types are known to do). And completely fails to take the right hand bend properly. This leads directly into the school playground.
Or, by some miracle, are we to believe that, of all the moments for it to happen, InViSiBlE ePiLePsY struck at the exact point where someone driving too fast might lose control?
Pls… shame on the CPS…
Edit: if this is a defence that works then EVERY TRAFFIC DEATH where someone wasn’t paying attention could be defended on exactly the same terms. “It was mysterious epilepsy”. Crown prosecution: “well… can’t prove it wasn’t. Guess there’s nothing for us to do here”. ffs… it’s nonsense. Does she know someone influential or something…
The thinktank have since moved on to their next study: “The defecation habits of ursidae in arboreal contexts”
Saved you a click of the Independent’s usual clickbait nonsense:
the research is conducted by an author of a new book he would like to sell you
‘spiritual’ has such a vague definition as to almost mean anything
one characteristic is “a yearning to connect with something bigger than myself”.
entirely unsurprising this is how a younger generation categorise the lack they feel as a result of covid isolation and disillusionment with unobtainable material life goals
‘spiritual’ in this context means ‘life feels empty but I think there should be something more’
belief in a personal god and the authority of religious leaders is at an all time low
aside from that there’s a small minority of the conservative religious seeing a small increase (muslims, evangelical Christians)
Mentally unwell person: acts mentally unwell
Mental Health Team: “weelllll, what can ya do?”
The absolute value doesn’t matter, only the movement does. A pound is worth more than a US dollar too but that doesn’t mean anything in particular.
I didn’t mean it like it’s possible… I meant it like when society pulls the rug out from under you it doesn’t leave you with many other options…
Modern society / politics / voters / globalisation has completely failed to protect the workers of the West who are continually squeezed by any number of factors.
The last resort is to attempt to need society less: making ones own food, rejecting consumerism, upcycling/recycling, changing entertainment tastes, consciously rejecting marketing etc
Time to be self sufficient to be honest…
Another failure of anyone with any kind of responsibility to have a spine
Here’s a video by Sabine Hossenfelder articulating the issues with current climate data that’s nearly never acknowledged. I think human activity is driving climate change, as does she, but it’s interesting to hear how in the inadequacies of the current models are big enough for climate change deniers to drive a bus through. (And also room enough for them to cry “conspiracy” when they discover how problematic some of these models are like it’s a secret. It’s not a secret, but it is true that mainstream media - and even popular science publications - gloss over these in order to solidify the need to take action)
It didn’t unfortunately :/
Debian + GNOME. I’m extremely new to Linux so excuse my ignorance. I searched around the topic a while finding some commands that didn’t work and others having the same issue. If you know different that would be much appreciated!
It seems impossible to set display scaling from the command line. Anything that fixes that would be nice.
How are you going to cha-cha if you can’t even count?
It used to be bad enough when time was running short and you could see that others had finished writing already. Imagine now you’re the only one clacking away, feeling self conscious as time comes to a close.
I don’t like oat milk but it’s more milk-like than skimmed UHT (bleurgh…). But I guess the line had to get drawn somewhere…
Can’t wait for the relaxing sound of 100 keyboards under exam conditions…
No need to crash it, they could build at a controlled rate so that average house price growth is roughly the same as wage inflation, which seems moderately fair. The real problem is private builders with private investors will never be motivated to do this. The real problem is why they’re used at all…
