  • Nixos is an os that’s defined by its config stored in .nix files. Everything is defined here all the software and configurations. Two people with the same script will have the exact same os.

Any changes you make that aren’t in the scripts won’t be present when you reboot.

You could maintain a very custom linux distribution (kinda) by just maintaining these config scripts.

So a user wouldn’t need to install all required software and dependencies. They could get a nixos and the self-host config and adjust some settings and have a working system straight after install.

  • They never were the responsible party. It’s a myth. Your better informed now, than in the past. It’s the only thing that’s changed.

The conservatives control the narrative of politics and the media. Even when not in power. When Cameron came to power the media kept pushing the message that he has reformed the tories, they are no longer the nasty corrupt party. Rise and repeat the same thing will happen again. This is how the tories spend most of the time in power since working class people got the vote, despite labour being better reprentation of them and their issues. Even when not in power

Labour are still heavily influenced by the tories. Margret Thatcher said Tony Blair was her greatest achievement.

It’s insane people fall for this again and again. People that think government doesn’t work and is ineffective shouldn’t be chosen to lead governments. They won’t do a good job. Either they don’t believe it’s possible, they want bad governance or their ideological beliefs will prevent them from doing a good job. Instead this paradox has been labelled as ‘responsible’.

  • The tories also get votes because they are so horrible, they know this and play to it. It does help them, put people don’t want to admit this to pollsters so they don’t poll as well. Especially when they are completely undefendable like they are now. Nothing drives people like hate and anger, which the press and tories stir up at every chance. They’ll complain about immigration and how bad immigrants are, despite them being responsible for the highest levels of immigration ever (tories like immigration it keeps wages down and makes unions weaker).

The tories will get more votes than you would expect, not enough to win. The tories have always been this nasty and incompetent. They still won elections.

  • Military and intelligence services are bothered by China. The government not so much. The conservatives are happy to sell our nuclear and communication infrastructure to China. It was the backlash in the media that made them change course.

The British government agreed to allow China to work on nuclear power stations in the UK, it was the intelligence service that made them reduce Chinas access to its design and operation.

This is the same government that stopped the EU from restricting cheap Chinese steel into the EU (prior to Brexit). Recently the UK closed one of its major steel manufacturers. We can only recycle steel in the UK now.

Steels needed for boats and tanks. Especially if a land war in Europe broke out, or a naval war in the Pacific.

The conservatives are weak on all advertising. The shear amount of gambling adverts in the UK are abysmal. As well as direct marketing to children for high strength vapes. We nearly got rid of nicotine addiction in young people, it’s was falling significantly prior to vapes being allowed to advertise to children. They don’t care, they’ll sell anything to the highest bidder.

  • They wouldn’t be seen to do this. Because throughout the entire affair they will be criticising the SNP on real and imagined issues. They have substantially more political media presence in Scotland (SNPs presence is largely government, or criticism of the SNP). They are also substantially better funded than the other parties in Scotland, despite a significantly smaller number of members. This means they can set their narrative rather well. Those that don’t pay much attention to politics will base their vote on Rishi Sunak rather than Douglas Ross.

Those that pay attention to politics in Scotland are less likely to be changing their vote irregardless of the Conservatives parliamentary record and will do so again. They are voting for a leader with three jobs, who repeatedly shows he doesn’t understand how the Scottish Parliament operates and in a friendly interview when he first became leader proposed enacting genocidal legislation if he was prime minister for a day.

The Scottish Parliament has a serious lack of talent in the opposition parties. There are some exceptions of previous leaders that were sacked and some newer MSPs. The SNPs landslide elections and the way party’s selected candidates in Scotland PR system prior to this wiped out the vast majority of senior party and talented members in particular. If you follow Scottish politics closely it’s hard to see anyone that is going to compently run the Scottish Government other than the SNP.

  • Only if the post of FM is vacant for 28 days, or a 2/3 majority votes for it.

The SNP are unlikely to support an earlier election as they don’t have a lot of spare funding.

The conservatives are unlikely to support an earlier election as they are set to lose many of their seats.

The green party leadership knows they are likely to lose votes in an election where they’ve opposed the SNP. The leadership is aware that most of their votes come from SNP voters choosing to vote Greens on their second vote to increase pro independence MSPs. The Green members and junior MSPs don’t seem to understand this and it’s caused this arrangement to end. The SNP can whip it’s members to support the government, the Greens struggle with this. Only the green leaders seem to accept that they are part of the government (until know).

This leaves 27 MSPs, out of 129 that would support an early election. Getting a 2/3rd majority for non-ordinary election means the post has to be left vacant for 28 days. Then the next election has to happen on the first Thursday of May, which will be May 2025 due to the timing.

The SNP only needs the support of one of Labour, Conservatives, LibDems or Greens to remain in government as a minority. They will probably get the support of the Greens, even after being kicked out of government. A Labour/LibDem/Conservative agenda won’t be as pro green issues as the SNP. If the SNP don’t get the greens support they are likely able to make deals with one of the other parties, including play them off each other.

  • There’s no validation process, even for BBC iPlayer. They ask for a postcode because the regional content within the UK is locked to different countries and regions (ITVX content is on STV player in Scotland).

There isn’t a way for them to check your TV licence on ITVX. Even then a TV licence is only required if you watch the livestream broadcasts on the app. If you watch catch-up, streamed but not live broadcasts, a TV licence isn’t required except for BBC iPlayer. An IP address outside the UK isn’t likely to work either.
