That girl who plays Steam Deck and writes about gaming + Linux a lot

Most of these were not on-the-spot interviews. They were very informal questions and answers.
So Writer felt appropriate to me - the questions were there, they can copy to paste elsewhere, or enter their own answers in the document.
I bring this up often because its so amusing to me.
Last year I did a lot of interviews with developers of popular Steam Deck and Linux programs. All went really well, and were quite fun to do.
One ‘dev’ (I use that term so loosely because I found out GPT is heavily used for their work) freaked out though when they saw my document I sent initially was an .odt file.
Knowing I am a pen-tester, they freaked out and told the public at large I was trying to hack them with a weird file type.
.odt
It still makes me laugh. Anyway, I swear by LibreOffice, I use it daily and love it so much!
Thank you! I really appreciate your comment, it’s one of very few which got the point of my post!
It’s just…odd. I totally understand the sentiment, but I think there’s some cave-dwellers in here who see the word Amazon mentioned and assume I am Bezos himself. Plenty of downvotes (which don’t bother me) but a few who followed me away from Lemmy and sent me friend requests in order to abuse me was - IDK, fucking stupid because:
-
a) My post was pretty clear that it was just a reminder for those who do subscribe, and
-
b) I think sometimes people forget that abusing someone whose work is red team pen-testing and hacking everything and everything can be a risky plan. Not that I ever do, since we have ethics, but the fact remains. It’s a odd decision to make.
I just figure they’re mouth breathers.

PerfectDark@lemmy.worldOPto Steam Deck@sopuli.xyz•Developer interview: my Q&A with the Heroic Games Launcher team2·4 days agodidn’t format correctly for some reason. No idea why since you had the # there and everything
I tried re-editing, but sometimes Lemmy does this. Its formatted as it should be, but it refuses to show correctly. I guess it might be the length of my posts, but that’s just a (poor) reasoning on why. It shouldn’t look like that, but it does. Nothing else I can do!
Thanks, though. Much appreciated!

You can find their affiliate link for buying directly from GOG here on their website.
-
But also any games bought from within Heroic itself gives the Heroic team a certain small percentage of the sale, directly to support Heroic.

It really is!
They already took almost the lowest cut, next to itch.io, but this improvement to things is massive if you’re an indie dev!
Thank you!
I just got to Malaysia today, and its the evening here now. ̶I̶’̶l̶l̶ ̶e̶d̶i̶t̶ ̶t̶h̶i̶s̶ ̶w̶i̶t̶h̶ ̶a̶ ̶p̶r̶o̶p̶e̶r̶ ̶l̶i̶n̶k̶ ̶f̶o̶r̶ ̶o̶t̶h̶e̶r̶s̶ ̶t̶o̶ ̶f̶o̶l̶l̶o̶w̶ ̶t̶o̶m̶o̶r̶r̶o̶w̶ ̶m̶o̶r̶n̶i̶n̶g̶.̶ (done! thanks again!)
I appreciate you pointing that out! I always end up missing a bit in these :)
No! Thank you for reading them!!!
Like I always say, I just feel lucky that people can be bothered reading through, because I have such a nice time sharing these :)
Forgive any formatting or typos, this one ended up quite lengthy (and reading over it…length for what reason?!), but as ever - thanks to all for letting me share these kinds of posts with you!
PerfectDark@lemmy.worldOPto Steam Deck@sopuli.xyz•Developer interview: my Q&A with the team behind RetroDECK1·8 days agoI’m glad you enjoyed it!
Having personally used RetroDECK for a loooooong time now and nothing else for emulation? I can swear by it :)
Thank you!!!
PerfectDark@lemmy.worldOPto Steam Deck@sopuli.xyz•Developer interview: my Q&A with the team behind RetroDECK2·8 days agoIt’s pretty easy if you want to try it. Both can coexist happily if say, you put all of RetroDECK on a micro SD card (the roms, emulators, bios, mods, texture packs etc all live on the SD card)
I’ve seen a lot try it out next to EmuDeck, and then make their mind up that way!
PerfectDark@lemmy.worldOPto Steam Deck@sopuli.xyz•Developer interview: my Q&A with the team behind RetroDECK7·9 days agoLike most with a Steam Deck, I started with EmuDeck. It’s fine, and clearly used by the vast, vast majority but like you I just had my issues with it.
I had 3 emulators installed and the data (stored in like 289745873407 difference folders in obscure places) was around 32GBs. I love that RetroDECK can exist solely on the SD card, with no problems with performance at all. And that radial dial?! Magic!
I’m glad you enjoyed this :)
Damn it.
Thank you! I always forget something! I’ll get to it soon!!!(fixed!)
Thank you so much!!!
I feel like most of what I’ve been (casually) told about these comes down to personal preference. I get why some users want each info bit to be their own post…but I just adore the old newsletter format. So I know I’ll be sticking to that at least!
The image loads for me! Its just a collection of their controllers, but I think it was a higher res image than others, so maybe its just taking some time?
I checked in jerboa and thunder and see it in both, but let me know if it persists!
And again, thanks so much :)
Thank you, I will grab it!!!
like some sort of article reading enjoyer of enjoyable articles of sorts
This makes me very happy. I know that exact feeling - finding something kinda niche and outside one’s own scope, but then enjoying it regardless?
Thanks, you’re very kind to say so!
Well that makes my screenshot just look utterly silly. Why didn’t I think of this?!
Thank you!!!
Oh you’re so welcome!!!
:) :)
I’m good friends with Gardiner, we chat every day! The reason I’m using the fact he uploads to YouTube is that this is where I figure he is most know, and most found by users. It’s not me stubbornly sticking my head in the sand, it’s so people can find him easily and see his work.
Once we’ve done our interview, you can rest assured I’ll have all of Gardiner’s contacts listed up - and I’ll even throw YouTube’s down the bottom!
It was, yes. But I also had Liam (of Gaming on Linux) post this to his site, last year. By memory I think Noah (SteamDeckHQ) posted a few others I did also on his site, but initially these were shown on reddit. You won’t find my post history there, however. I deleted my profile and content when I got well and truly sick of things there.
And thank you! I’m glad you enjoyed it!
