  • I disagree: I think that having two dedicated democratic socialist parties brings more attention to the movement as a whole and increases its gravity. It also means that if one of the two parties gets clobbered for whatever reason then we are not instantly made politically homeless, like when Corbyn got taken down as Labour leader. When the Your Party launch was fudged we could join the Greens because by then they had emerged as a credible and legitimate leftwing party. The more success we have on the left as a whole the better at this stage IMO.

  • I’m a member and look forward to getting the procedures in place at conference to prevent this sort of stuff happening again in future.

It’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to be a part of the founding of a political party that aligns with my values and if it all goes tits up with Your Party I’m glad that Greens will be right there. If it all goes tits up with the Greens we will have Your Party. Both are currently prepared to cooperate electorally (and I’ll be voting in favour of this as a member) and I think both parties would vote in favour of a coalition if the time came.

  • AFAIK If you host GotoSocial it links out to the instances where content is hosted, rather than downloading it as a copy. I have a single-user instance on a tiny VPS and it uses hardly any resources. I think part of the reason for that is the above. You have to use a client application with it because there is no web interface, which I think is partly why it is so lightweight.

Might be worth looking at if you’re concerned about accidentally hosting things you don’t want.
